MOGADISHU (SD) – The National Security Advisor to President Hassan Sheikh, Hussein Moalin, stated that no final decision has been made regarding the countries that will join the AUSSOM operation in Somalia.
National Security Advisor Hussein Macallin clarified that the Somali government has the authority to decide on the countries participating in the new peacekeeping operation in Somalia, AUSSOM, which will commence at the end of this year.
“The Somali government has the authority to decide on the countries participating in the AUSSOM operation… The decision will be announced soon, aligning with our national priorities—the spirit of the Ankara declaration is strong and still alive,” said Hussein Moalin.
His statement comes as the United Nations Security Council has officially approved the new African Union support and stabilization mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), which will replace the previous ATMIS mission.
The resolution, drafted by the United Kingdom, was approved by 14 members of the Security Council, with the United States abstaining from the vote due to concerns over funding.
