Kismayo (SD) – Somali forces reportedly carried out a planned operations on the outskirts of the port city of Kismayo, particularly in Barsanguni area of Lower Juba region, allegedly killing Shabab operatives.
According to Somali military officials in the armed forces who spoke to the media gave details of the mission confirming how it targeted and killed members of the group.
The commander of the 11th brigade, 43rd Division of the Somali National Army, Colonel Adow Mohamed Sahal, told the media that they had killed an officer named Abdi Ibrahim Saleban, the leader of Al-Shabaab in the Lower Jubba region, and his deputy.
The Somali National Army (SNA) said it had wounded three other members during the operation.
There were no additional independent information on the operation that killed the Shabab leaders in Barsanguni.
Somali military officials said they will continue their operations in the Jubba regions of southern Somalia, although al-Shabab has not yet commented on the Somali government’s statement.
