Somalia: U.S. Airstrikes kills ten Al Shabaab Members in Afmadow

Afmadow July 09, 2023 (SD) – A recent airstrike by the U.S. military has reportedly caused significant casualties in areas believed to be occupied by Al-Shabaab militants. The attacks resulted in substantial damage and casualties, as reported by the United States.

According to reports from the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), yesterday’s airstrikes targeted several locations on the outskirts of Afmadow district in Lower Jubba region. It was alleged that members of Al-Shabaab were present in these areas.

AFRICOM stated that the airstrikes successfully eliminated 10 combatants belonging to Al-Shabaab, and the United States emphasized that they obtained intelligence indicating that the strikes did not result in civilian casualties.

AFRICOM described the airstrikes as defensive, carried out in response to an imminent threat posed by the militant group.

They also mentioned that they would continue to assess the operation’s outcome while providing further details as appropriate.

The recent military operations by the United States have inflicted significant losses on both the leadership and fighters of Al-Shabaab and after the airstrikes, the militants have reportedly dispersed and retreated.
