Mogadishu (SD) – A plane carrying seven tones of medical aid from United Arab Emirates arrived in Mogadishu today. The donation aims to help the Somali government to equip the Coronavirus treatment centers and enable health workers to deal with the disease effectively said the ministry of health.
“The UAE providing its full support to strengthen Somalia’s efforts to reduce the spread of COVID-19,” said Mohammed Ahmed Othman Al Hammadi, UAE Ambassador to Somalia
This was the first medical equipment donated by the United Arab Emirates to the federal government of Somalia since the outbreak of coronavirus. The United Arab Emirates previously donated medical aid to Somaliland and Puntland to fight against COVID 19 and protect the lives of people.
The federal government of Somalia budgeted $5 million to formulate health safety against coronavirus.
Since the government of Somalia dissolved in 1991, the Somali community has been facing lack of public health services, social development, education and social services sector.
