GAROWE (SD) -The President of Puntland, Mr. Said Abdullahi Deni, today met with a delegation led by the United Nations Special Representative for Somalia, Ms. Catriona Liang, at the Presidential Palace in Garowe.

The meeting discussed the situation in Somalia and how Puntland could contribute to important national issues.

President Deni and Catriona Liang also discussed matters related to the Puntland elections and how to ensure peaceful and democratic elections. Representatives of the Puntland opposition also met with the United Nations Special Representative for Somalia in Garowe.

A joint statement released by the Puntland opposition umbrella today stated that they met with Catriona Laing to discuss the importance of conducting transparent and peaceful elections in Puntland.

The Puntland Regional Government and the Opposition have disagreed on the upcoming 2024 elections.
