MOGADISHU (SD) – The Chairperson of Somalia’s Federal Electoral Commission and members of the Commission met with representatives of the international community and discussed electoral issues.
The Electoral Commission has briefed the international community on the progress of the upcoming parliamentary elections in some of the country’s regional administrations and in the capital Mogadishu.
Representatives of the international community praised the work of the Electoral Commission, and stressed the importance of concluding the elections on time and working to expedite the elections.
Representatives of the international community also called on the Electoral Commission to work for a transparent election, and warned against rigging the election and rejecting candidates.
The resumption of parliamentary elections appears to have been marred by corruption, with most of the elected members being selected and won without being contested by rival candidate.
