Somalia’s Electoral Commission orders candidates and delegates to reveal their faces

Mogadishu (SD) – Somalia’s Federal Electoral Commission issued an order to candidates seeking seats in the House of the People and the Delegates electing MP’s.

The Federal Electoral Implementation Commission (FEC) banned facemasks, which some candidates and delegates have been seen wearing during elections.

“The Federal Electoral Commission (FEC) is informing candidates running for the House of Representatives that it will not be acceptable for a candidate to cover his or her face, in order to protect the transparency of the country’s elections, Thank you, ”said a statement from the Federal Electoral Implementation Committee.

Delegates from Somaliland recently casted their ballots with facemasks, leading to strong criticism of the electoral process.

The decision comes at a time when Somalia’s lower house elections are in full swing.
