Somaliland: Guurti summons Chamber of Commerce to talks about inflation

Hargeisa (SD) – Chairman of the Somaliland Chamber of Commerce Jamal Aided Ibrahim, says the global impact of Covid-19 pandemic led to a high levels of inflation in Somaliland.

The chairman added that the country’s government and business community were not to blame for the raising costs of living.

“Today’s world inflation affected the Republic of Somaliland, and it is not caused by the business community or by the government. But things have changed in the international arena, affected by the Covid-19 epidemic, and it has opened. The $ 2,500 containers and now rents for $ 11,000, and the manufacturing industry is isolated, so there was competition around the world.” Said chairman Aided.

Chairman Aided made the remarks while addressing the Somaliland’s Guurti Standing Committee yesterday, where he was summoned for questioning.

Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Somaliland House of Elders, said they also discussed with the Somaliland Chamber of Commerce economic issues, livelihoods and investment in Somaliland.

Livelihoods in Somaliland have skyrocketed for the past couple of years, as citizens seek help from the business community and government.
