Geneva December 02, 2022 (SD) – The Special envoy of drought relief for Somalia, Abdirahman Abdishakur has met with American officials in Switzerland that have attended the 113th session of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Council.
The Deputy Assistant Secretary for the humanitarian affairs of the US foreign affairs ministry, Elizabeth H. Campbell, Amy E Pope, the Deputy Director of the IOM, and now nominated for the position of Director General of the IOM were among the senior officials who held the meeting with Abdirahman Abdishakur.
Somalia’s envoy for drought relief has extended gratitude to the US government for playing a key role in the efforts to support Somali people affected by the recurrent drought in this horn of Africa state.
However, the two sides agreed on the importance to initiate new strategies so that Somalia could prevent further droughts in the following years as the southern and some central regions of Somalia did not receive rain for the last four years.
