Cairo January 11, 2023 (SD) – The Prime Minister of Somalia, Xamse Cabdi Barre, spoke to the Somali community in Egypt yesterday and provided details about the financial war that the federal government has waged against Al-Shabaab.
The Prime Minister said that they had closed 250 accounts in 4 banks, and had also closed 70 Mobile numbers used for transferring funds through two companies.
He added that the government had obtained the information about these accounts and numbers from the Somali people after the government had made a call-in number in October for people to report any info regarding Al-Shabaab asking them for “protection money”.
The Prime Minister added that Al-Shabaab’s finances have decreased and are currently facing a very difficult financial situation.
