MOGADISHU (SD) – President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who held a consultative meeting with female members of both the House of the People and the Upper House of the Federal Parliament of Somalia, has shared the government’s plan for the completion of the state-building process, the Constitution, and the country’s reconstruction.
The President emphasized that female members of parliament play a crucial role in defending the rights of Somali women, leadership, and the unity of the country, and he underscored that ongoing discussions on constitutional amendments should address issues relevant to the overall welfare of Somali women following Islamic law and Somali culture.
“Somali women are our backbone, steadfast in defending and rebuilding the generations of Somalis. It is they who have endured the worst of the worst. As the country advances towards complete constitutionalism, dignity, and honor must prevail for every citizen with a voice in the decision-making process. I urge you to work towards ensuring fairness rooted in the fundamental principles that unite the nation.”
President Hassan Sheikh highlighted the challenges facing Somalia’s statehood and the misconceptions affecting the Somali people. He urged the female members of both parliamentary chambers to engage in meaningful discussions and to influence the agendas they support to reinforce the values they cherish.
