Somalia’s Speaker of the Upper House Abdi Hashi accepts Election Mediations

Mogadishu (SD) – The Northern Regional Parliamentary Election Commission is reportedly expected to include four members from Speaker of the Upper House Abdi Hashi Abdullahi on the Somali government-appointed Electoral Commission.

In recent days, meetings addressing the Speaker’s concerns with the Northern Region Parliamentary Election Commission were held , which he said was appointed without consultation.

The initial meetings took place in Garowe between Abdi Hashi and Deputy Prime Minister Mahdi Guled with the participation of the Presidents of Puntland, Galmudug, Jubaland and Somaliland representative yielded a consensus on the inclusion of the Speaker of the Upper House on the Government Appointed Committee.

Speaker of the Upper House Abdi Hashi Abdullahi has repeatedly issued statements in the past, opposing the government-appointed Northern Regional Parliamentary Election Commission, appointing other committees, supported by members of the Union of Presidential Candidates.

The parties to the agreement and the mediators have not yet issued an official statement on the agreement reached on the country’s elections.
