Hargeisa (SD) – The Somaliland government says it will released Bulshawi, a young man from Somalia who has been in jail for the a month in Hargeisa.

Somaliland’s Minister of Interior Mohamed Kahin Ahmed said he had accepted requests for the release of Bilal Bulshawi, a popular Tiktok blogger, whose arrest angered youths in Hargeisa.

Somaliland Police say Bilal was arrested for filming himself drinking tea with the Somali flag at a restaurant in Hargeisa.

Some people who attended a ceremony in Hargeisa where former Somali fighter pilot Ahmed Mohamed Hassan (Ahmed Dheere) who refused to bomb the capital was awarded a medal, demanded the release of Bulshawi.

Speaking at the event, the interior minister said he had accepted the requests and would take action in releasing Bulshawi.

Bilal Bulshawi’s family has previously called on the Somaliland authorities to release their son. Bulshawi is known as the President of Tiktok was arrested in Hargeisa last month.
