Hargeisa (SD) – Security in Somaliland cities has been tightened over the past two nights, with troops patrolling the streets of major cities.
According to residents, Burao, Las Anod and Borama are among the towns where security has been beefed up, with more troops on the streets, conducting searches.
The Somaliland government did not commented on the situation, but Togdheer Regional Police Commander Mohamed Farah who spoke to the media in Burao last night spoke about the operation.
“We have not had any problems, but it is a deterrent to what is happening to our neighbors. We are intensifying our efforts.” Said the commander.
Somaliland has reportedly deployed the largest number of troops in Hargeisa, launching an intensive security operations there.
The security forces operations are reportedly linked to the country’s March 31 elections.
Somaliland has been described as one of the safest places in the Horn of Africa, and its forces have recently stepped up security operations even more.
