Hargeisa (SD) – A meeting of the Somaliland cabinet chaired by President Muse Bihi held today, focused on the country’s upcoming elections and a debilitating drought in parts of the country.
“The cabinet discussed strengthening security during Somaliland’s dual elections on 31-05-2021, and that the electoral law stipulates the state-owned media, should be giving access to the national parties.” Said government statement.
Meanwhile, the government has suggested that attention be paid to the drought that has affected parts of the country.
“The council reactivated the drought committee and sent a fact-finding commission to drought-stricken areas in need of water supplies and food distribution, issue a call to action, and begin the relief to the needy citizens affected by the drought.” Added the statement.
The Council also discussed the need for increased public awareness of the COVID-19 virus, since there has been an uptick in the resurgence of the virus.
“The council agreed to fully re-launch Covid 19 awareness campaign, and Its important to educate the community about the dangers of the disease.”
