HARGEISA (SD) – The 31st anniversary of Somaliland’s independence is being widely celebrated in major cities of Somaliland today.
Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi attends the biggest celebrations in Hargeisa to mark Somaliland’s independence.
While the country’s official opposition party leaders are attend the celebrations in Borama and Burao.
Somaliland withdrew from the union with the Somali government in 1991 after a long and deadly civil war.
Somaliland has made significant progress in the areas of peace, trade and democracy since independence in 1991, despite lack of diplomatic recognition.
