HARGEISA (SD) – Somaliland has commented on the agreement reached in Ankara between the President of Somalia and the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, which appears to have nullified the previous agreement between Muse Bihi and Abiy Ahmed.
The spokesman for the Waddani Party, Mohamed Farah Abdi, spoke about their party’s perspective on the agreement reached in Ankara between the President of the Federal Government of Somalia and the Prime Minister of Ethiopia.
Despite the new government being sworn in just a day after the Ankara agreement, Somaliland has discussed their plans regarding this agreement and, in general, the previous understanding reached between Somaliland and Ethiopia.
“The agreement reached in Ankara does not concern us. It involves two countries, and we are Somaliland. If they want to reconcile, it’s between two brotherly countries. It’s normal for them to agree and discuss; it doesn’t concern us,” said Waddani Party spokesman Mohamed Farah Abdi.
He also discussed the government’s position on the prior memorandum of understanding (MOU) between Somaliland and Ethiopia.
“We have not seen the MOU with Ethiopia. The new government has just taken office, and we will review it. If it benefits Somaliland, we will support it. If it does not, we will not pursue it. We will wait to see and then decide,” he said.
The ruling Waddani Party of Somaliland also discussed their priorities for the first 100 days of their term and how they will sequence their plans and initiatives.
