HARGEISA (SD) – Opposition officials arrested a week ago during a prodemocracy rally in Somaliland’s capital Hargeisa have been arraigned for the first time today at a Marodi-jeex regional court.
Two journalists covering the peaceful rally were also among those arraigned in court today.
The court remanded all of the officials from the opposition parties and the two journalists in custody for 7 days more days.
Traditional leaders mediating between opposition parties and government called for the release of illegally detained officials and the apposition to call off the rallies.
The court ruling today could lead to opposition parties resuming their prodemocracy protests.
Opposition parties and the government of President Muse Bihi have are at loggerheads over the conduct of the presidential election slated for November 2022.
