Borama (SD) – Reports from Borama, the regional capital of Awdal, say that the Somaliland government has refused the regions Chief traditional leader entry to Awdal.
The riots took place in the suburbs south of Borama, after a group of young protesters burned tires and chanted anti-Somaliland slogans.
The response of the security forces was to open fire at the protesters, which hit one of the youths, Abdirahman Mohamed Barkhad, who was later taken to Borama Hospital.
The situation in Borama remains tense as the government has not yet allowed Ugaas Abdirashid Doodi to cross the border.
The Somaliland government and the Awdal authorities have not commented on the issue yet.
