Mogadishu (SD) – The Somaliland government has yesterday deported a couple accused of spreading Christianity in in Somaliland to Somali capital Mogadishu.
Somaliland security forces arrested the couple in Hargeisa on September 21st, after a number of Christian documents were found in their home.
The couple reportedly appeared before the Marodi-jeex regional court on several occasions, ultimately deciding to deport them to Mogadishu.
The sources added that the man was from Somalia and the woman was from Somaliland, which led to his deportation to the capital.
The couple’s detention lasted for months, with representatives from European countries pressuring the Somaliland government to release the couple, which is believed to be behind the deportation decision.
This comes at a time when the spread of Christianity is on the rise in Somali regions, with members accused of spreading Christianity arrested by the Somaliland government last year.
Neither the Somaliland government, the deported couple nor the Somali government have commented on the matter yet.
