Somaliland: Electoral Commission announces election date for the House of Representatives and local councils

Hargeisa (SD) – Somaliland National Electoral Commission has today submitted a letter to the President of Somaliland, Muse Bihi Abdi, specifying the election date for the House of Representatives and local councils.

The members of the Electoral Commission, who have officially completed the second phase of voter registration recently, have submitted a letter to the President specifying the date, election, scheduled for 31/05. / 2021, and asked the president to make it official.

The President of the Republic of Somaliland, Muse Bihi Abdi, thanked the members of the Electoral Commission for their efforts in completing the second phase of voter registration, reaffirming his commitment in providing full support for the elections to be held on time.

Elections to the House of Representatives and local governments have been each delayed several times.

Leaders of the two opposition parties Wadani and UCID have not yet commented on today’s election announcement by the National Electoral commission.
