Somaliland: Government responds to opposition accusations on Corruption to win Speakership

Hargeisa (SD) -The Somaliland government responds to allegations by the opposition parties that President Muse Bihi Abdi is using financial resources to elect the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

The WADDANI and UCID parties, which have a majority in the Somaliland House of Representatives, want to co-chair the new Somaliland House of Representatives, but the KULMIYE party, led by President Muse Bihi Abdi, is also working hard to get Yassin Haji Mohamud Hiir Faraton a Kulmiye MP, to become the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Muse Bihi Abdi, a few days after the announcement of the election results, told the media that he would promote Faraton to become the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Opposition lawmakers later said they had been offered money to vote for Faraton, raising suspicions that the president was using public resources to make Faraton the speaker of the House of Representatives.

SAHAN TV asked Muse Bihi’s Electoral Adviser, Abdillahi Mohamed Dahir (Cukuse), about what Muse Bihi was doing to get Kulmiye to get the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

“Opposition parties will not be able to reconcile the two, to say that President Muse Bihi is a padlock who does not pay any shillings and to say that he is squandering money and buying the Speaker. ” Said Cukuse.

Adding “The Speaker of the House of Representatives, whoever he is, will work for the people of Somaliland and the Parliament of the country, the parties are all trying to win the Chairperson, competition is normal, so what is on the street and what is real are two different things. “
