Somaliland: Guurti Concerned with Covid-19 and Quality of Education in the Country

Hargeisa (SD) – Members of the Somaliland House of Elders, today discussed social issues in the country, such as health, education and other issues related to social life.

Lawmakers have differing views on the issue they are debating on social issues, some have expressed concern over the state of health in the country, saying that Covid_19’s condition is out of control and that mortality is on the rise, and called on the public to heed the advice of the health sector.

In Hargeisa alone, a large number of people reportedly died of covid-19 and are buried every day, agued some of the Lawmakers.

Some Guurti lawmakers have suggested that activities in the country be suspended to reduce the spread of the covid-19 virus.

Lawmaker Abdirahman Shaadh spoke specifically about education, saying “Education has become a business, a course costs ten dollars at private schools or 15 dollars”.

Mr. Shaadh added “The government should take action against private schools, just like the universities. 700 people are graduating. No one is robbing. They are just wearing hats. It is a name for the education of the country.”
