Somaliland House of Representatives Launches Training on Writing Laws

Hargeisa (SD) – Speaker of the Somaliland House of Representatives, Abdirizak Khalif Ahmed has opened a workshop on drafting laws and regulations for the new members of the Somaliland House of Representatives.

The training was organized by UNDP and will be delivered by parliamentary procedure experts, including former Deputy Speakers of the House of Representatives Abdikadir Haji Ismail Jirde and Abdiaziz Samale as well as former MP Said Mohamed Elmi Siradle and other UNDP experts.

The Speaker of the Somaliland House of Representatives, Mr. Abdirizak Khalif Ahmed, who officially opened the training, urged lawmakers to take advantage of the knowledge during the course, noting that the training will contribute to a better understanding of the country’s laws and regulations.

The Secretary of the House of Representatives of Somaliland, Mr. Abdirizak Said Ayanle, said: “This workshop will last for three days and is being presented by UNDP. UNDP is a partner of the House of Representatives, they have been working with this council for fifteen years, and has done a lot for this council, and we say let’s continue our friendship. The workshop will cover all parliamentary issues and will be delivered by UNDP experts.”

The New Members of the Somaliland House of Representatives are expects to address a number of judicial issues, such as the rape bill and the media law.
