Hargeisa Tuesday, September, 6, 2022 (SD) – Somaliland’s Interior Minister today rejected a peaceful protest request from the Community Development and Human Rights Organization.
In reply to the request of the Organization submitted, the Minister issued a statement, saying that at this moment in the middle of the registration, and that they won’t allow any demonstrations at all.
The country’s constitution allows citizens to hold peaceful rallies, making the Minister’s rejection illegal.
Interior Minister, Mohamed Kahin Ahmed cited in the statement notifying all the party concerned that the requested demonstration from Community Development and Human Rights Organization has been rejected.
In Somaliland, there is an ongoing presidential election dispute that has resulted in the death of several prodemocracy protestors on August 11, 2022.
