Somaliland National Parties agree on 2020 local and parliamentary elections

Hargeisa (SD) – Somaliland’s National parties, Kulmiye Wadani and UCID agreed on ways of holding both local council and parliamentary elections in the country on today.

The three parties have agreed that the 2020 local city councils and House of Representative elections will be held using the 2005 electoral law.

The Somaliland National parties also agreed that the previous Electoral Commission should be used as a technical advisors to the new commission.

The agreement was signed by the President of Somaliland, who is also the Kulmiye party chairman Muse Bihi, and the opposition chairpersons of Wadani and UCID. Abdirahman Irro and Faisal Ali Warabe.

The election of local councils and representatives and the selection of a Election Commission, have been the source of a heated disagreements among the National parties, causing a multiple postponement of elections.
