BORAMA (SD) – Leaders of the Somaliland opposition parties Wadani and UCID are visiting Awdal and Togdher regions this morning, ahead of the country’s independence celebrations.
The chairman of Wadani party Mr. Hirsi Ali X Hassan with a large UCID delegation arrived in Burao, the capital of Togdher region.
Similarly, the chairman of UCID party Faisal Ali Warabe and Wadani presidential candidate Mr. Abdirahman Irro arrived in Borama, the capital of Awdal region this morning.
Leaders of the two parties who both spoke in public, urged the people of Borama and Burao to take part in the May 18th commemoration and prepare for the November 13th presidential election.
The officials are in Togdher and Awdal regions to celebrate May 18, commemorating the country’s declaration of independence in 1991.
This year’s May 18 commemoration comes as the government and political parties are celebrating separately and amid political turmoil over the presidential election.
