HARGEISA (SD) -The outgoing president of the self-declared Republic of Somaliland President Muse Bihi has finally signed into law the enclave’s electoral Law following multiple amendments causing hurdles in the electoral process.
These amendments and revisions were made by the Houses of Representatives and Elders of Somaliland and the enclave’s high court with changes and updates being made and agreed upon by stakeholders.
Although the national parties and many political organizations are in agreement with these laws, some political organizations have shown opposition due to their belief that the law unfairly favors the three national political parties: Kulmiye, Waddani, and UCID.
The leaders of these political Organizations, subsequently criticized the president for signing the amendments into law, stating that if elections were conducted in such a manner, they would not participate.
On the other hand, the UCID opposition party has yet to issue a statement endorsing the milestone, but Somaliland’s largest opposition party Waddani has endorsed the move, with its Chairman, Hirsi Haji Hassan, stating that the election debate is over.
