Lasanod December 27, 2022 (SD) – Up to three people were killed and others were injured today when Somaliland forces opened fire on people demonstrating in the city of Lasanod, the capital of the Sool region.

The protestors were angry by yesterday’s killing of Abdifatah Abdullahi Abdi (Hadrawi) a member of the Wadani party in Lasanod and blocked the main road in the regional capital, shouting slogans against the Somaliland administration.

Videos posted on social media show the Somaliland Army using life ammunition on the protesters. The dead and the injured were taken to the hospitals in Lasanod, as traffic and business in the city came to a complete standstill.

Frequent and planned killings of the region’s intellectuals are said to be carried out in Lasanod by unknown groups.
