HARGEISA (SD) – A press release from the new administration of Somaliland addressed the recent fighting between forces loyal to Somaliland and those of the SSC Khatumo administration in the town of Erigavo in the Sool region.

In a statement, the Ministry of Internal Security of Somaliland commended the Somaliland National Army for inflicting heavy losses on the opposing forces in a battle fought yesterday in Erigavo.

“The Ministry greatly commends the Somaliland forces who are always ready to defend the sovereignty and ensure the overall security of the country.

The National Army are self-sacrificing heroes who achieved a great victory yesterday and demonstrated to the enemy that anyone who attempts to harm Somaliland will face a response they will regret,” the statement from the Ministry of Internal Security said.

The Somaliland administration declared that they would never compromise on anything that affects the existence, unity of the community, and overall security of Somaliland regions, issuing a warning to those planning attacks against them.

The fighting in Erigavo saw both sides claiming victories, and the clashes over the past few days have resulted in significant casualties, including deaths and injuries among the combatants and civilians.
