Hargeisa October 30, 2022 (SD) – The presidency of Somaliland announced that the country’s elections will be held as soon as possible with the schedule of the election committee.
A brief misleading statement published on the Twitter page of the Somaliland Presidency does not reflect the reality on the ground, as the Government is insisting on holding a disputed political organization elections first.
The statement said that the government has approved funding for the country’s 2023 elections.
Today’s presidential statement did not give any details on what is meant by following the schedule of the Somaliland Electoral Committee.
The Somaliland Election Commission has previously said that they can only hold presidential elections for a period of 9 months, as there is no mandate or laws allowing them to hold any other elections in the country.
