Somaliland President calls for peace in Sool and Sanag

HARGEISA (SD President of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro, has stated that he wants the conflicts in the Sool and Sanag regions to be resolved through dialogue.

President Cirro, during a security meeting yesterday with the leaders of the opposition parties Kulmiye and Kaah, also ordered the military to fully defend Somaliland.

“The President stated that his administration is not at war with its people, but it is a constitutional duty to defend the country from any enemy that comes together. The National Armed Forces have been given full orders to defend the country and its people,” said Presidential Spokesperson Hussein Egeh Dayr.

The President has again called for an unconditional peace initiative to all parties involved in the conflicts in the Sool and Sanaag regions to reach an understanding-based solution.

The opposition parties, on their part, have pledged to support the new government and to work together on the defense and unity of the Somaliland people.

President Irro has repeatedly expressed his desire to find a peaceful resolution to the recurring conflicts in the Sanag and Sool regions, which have caused deaths, injuries, and displacement.
