WASHINGTON (SD) – Somaliland president Muse Bihi Abdi reiterated that China has no right to be angry with Somaliland over the relationship Somaliland started with Taiwan,
The breakaway regions of Somalia’s President also stated that they are ready to initiate good relations with China.
In an exclusive interview with VOA Somali Services, the president was asked if China could undermine Somaliland’s quest for recognition following the anger over Taiwan-Somaliland relations.
“China has no right to be angry with us. We are an independent country that will have relations with any party. China can be angry if we have harmed them, but if we don’t have any dispute they have no need to be angry with us” said president Muse Bihi. He also stated that Somaliland is ready to initiate good relations with China.
The president said “we are prepared to have good relations with China, we have not presented Taiwan to the United Nations. If we had recognition we would have recognized ourselves. China needs us and we need them, we want our relations to be good”.
Relations between Somaliland and China have soured since Somaliland established Relations with Taiwan, which China believes is a part of its territory.
