MOGADISHU (SD) – The African Union Mission in Somalia known as AMISOM has been operating in Somalia since 2007, starting 31st of March 2022 the AMISOM mission will be replaced by the operation named ATMIS.
The commander of Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF), Gen.Wilson Mbasu Mbadi, who attended the farewell ceremony for the Ugandan troops that were deployed to Somalia, urged them to protect themselves and the people of Somalia.
He stated that the Ugandan troops deployed to Somalia had a duty to behave well and act in accordance with the training provided, and be cautious of the threat posed by AL-Shabab.
“Do the right thing when you go to Somalia, make sure you come back safe and sound. AL-Shabab is a big problem, you have to be careful and make sure that they do not have the freedom to commit more acts of terrorism” said the Uganda Defense Forces Commander Gen. Mbadi.
Uganda is one of the largest troop contributors to Somalia, and the new Ugandan contingent in Somalia is a part of the new operation called ATMIS.
