Somaliland Reacts to Remarks by Somali Prime Minister

Hargeisa (SD) – Somaliland government voiced its displeasure over a recent statement by Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble, regarding the resumption of stalled talks between the two countries and international aid to Somaliland.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Somaliland Prof. Yasin Haji Mohamud Hiir Faraton, who spoke to the state television while abroad, also addressed the alleged relationship between Somaliland and Israel.

“I do not want to rush into this. It is too soon. It was only recently when the prime minister spoke. The prime minister has released a statement to the media which does not mean that it will be directly implemented.” said Faraton.

He continued “We can’t be sure, it depends on how things work, how his government will to do that. Every one knew Somaliland’s participation in the dialogue, and was ready to resolve the dispute between the two countries, Somalia’s ruined it, if they show any new interest to discuss, Somaliland is ready.”

Responding to the Prime Minister of Somalia about his remarks on how the federal government will work to ensure that Somaliland receives its portion of international aid, Faraton once again said let’s see and wait.

“I have listened to the prime minister and I have heard everything he has said, it depends on the results of his government and its allies and leaders, It depends on how he convinces them and carries out those tasks, and how he changes the course of politics in Somalia.” Said Faraton.

When asked if there were any talks between Somaliland and Israel, he responded ” “I don’t know where you got that story from, it false, go seek the truth from them.”
