Hargeisa October 06, 2022 (SD) – In a strange statement, the Somaliland Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the government welcomes the extension of the president’s term and that the elections will be held as soon as possible.

Somaliland’s unelected Guurti house has recently extended their term by five years and that of the president Bihi by two years.

The recently confirmed electoral commission announced that they could hold the presidential election in nine months.

The statement from the Somaliland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is in response to the International Partner’s recent push back on the president’s extension, is described as laughable and inconsistent with the reality of the election controversy, which the president is said to be behind.
