Somaliland: Somalia’s refusal to recognize Covid-19 cases in Somaliland proves their hostility towards us

Hargeisa (SD) – The Somaliland government has today responded to a statement from the Federal Government of Somalia dismissing the two Coronavirus cases confirmed in Somaliland.

Somaliland says the Somali government’s refusal to recognize these cases shows their hostility towards Somaliland.

Ms. Hinda Hersi Gani, Somaliland Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, addressing the issue, said that they do not need for the federal government.

“The person who refused to acknowledge COVID-19 cases in your area, what could they do for you, we expected them to say Somaliland is a tiny country, lets pray for them and send help” said Minister Hinda Gani.

“If being a Somali meant anything to them, they would not say that Somaliland does not have Coronavirus, rather they would say let’s help them”. The minister added.

The Somali Deputy Minister of Health, who spoke to the media yesterday, said he did not recognize the cases in Somaliland, as he noted that they did not trust Somaliland testing ability.

However, the World Health Organization last night included the two cases in Somaliland in Somalia’s confirmed Covid-19 cases, as they are not recognize Somaliland as an independent country.
