Somaliland: The Drought Is Affecting More Than One Million

HARGEISA (SD) – Somaliland Vice President Abdirahman Abdillahi Ismail (Saylici) has expressed concern over the living conditions of more than one million people affected by severe drought.

Seylici, chairman of the Somaliland Drought Committee, meanwhile, defended the committee’s work on drought relief.

The vice president of Somaliland talked about the the severity of the drought to the VOA Somali Service in Hargeisa.

“This is not time to blame each other, anyone who can afford a water tank or a thousand tanks that can rescue people that’s all that is needed today.” the Vice President told the VOA.

Adding “Drought is affecting 1.5 million people and has now reached the western regions. In fact, the drought situation is critical, especially in the three eastern regions. The lack of water is making the situation worst.”

The Somali region of the Horn of Africa has been hit hard by severe drought that is affecting people and animals.
