HARGEISA (SD)-The main opposition party in Somaliland, Waddani, has rejected a one-month extension proposed by the House of Elders for reviewing the new election law before it is voted on.

Deputy Chairman of Waddani, Mohamed Haji Yusuf Waabeeye, who spoke to the media in Hargeisa today, characterized the decision by the House of Elders as a delaying tactic.

“When the month ends, the House of Elders’ session expires, and you can see that the law they claimed to be working on is still incomplete,” Waabeeye said.

He said that they worked with the President in good faith and that they wanted the election dispute to end, but the President still wanted to postpone the election, calling on him to resign.

The opposition party in Somaliland, Waddani, has rejected a one-month extension proposed by the House of Elders for reviewing the new election law before its voted on.

Members of the Somaliland Senate yesterday agreed to review the electoral law for a month before it is voted on, saying they need more time to review it.

“President Muse, the country is in a delicate situation, it has been 5 years since it was elected, and it seems there is confusion and disorder. If the country is to be saved, it needs to avoid what could lead to chaos; he should not insist on something that is not suitable,” Waabeeye added.

The Deputy Chairman of Waddani accused the outgoing president of mismanaging the economy, security, and the country’s unity.

Waabeeye called on all stakeholders to intervene and save Somaliland, as the opposition will not accept any further delays in elections.
