Hargeisa (SD) – The government of Somaliland has issued a statement welcoming the decision of the US President Donald Trump ordering the withdrawal of US troops from Somalia.

The US has about 700 troops in the country helping local forces battle al-Shabab and Islamic State militants.

A statement from the US Department of Defense said that US President Donald Trump has ordered the US Department of Defense and Command of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) to relocate most US troops inside Somalia and their equipment, in early 2021.
