Hargeisa Feb 26, 2023 (SD) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Somaliland, Esse Keyd, has spoken about the Somaliland army’s withdrawal from the city of Laascaanood, following weeks of fighting.

In a presser, minister Keyd said that the government’s aim is to show the international community and the Somali people that they are committed to peace.

The added that the military has the necessary strength to defend Somaliland, but they wanted to show their commitment to implementing a ceasefire.

The Minister also stated that the government is committed to ensuring that Laascaanood is not occupied by terrorists, and called on the local militias to leave the city.

Esse Keyd emphasized that Somaliland can resolve its internal conflicts and maintain stability.
