Hargeisa (SD) – The Somaliland National Electoral Commission (NEC) has issued a statement announcing the election timeline for the House of Representatives and local councils.
The country’s commission said it will need nine months to prepare to hold the local council and parliamentary elections, which have been postponed several times.
The electoral commission’s statement yesterday expressed concerns that they may not be able to hold the continuous elections on time.
In a press statement issued yesterday, the National Electoral Commission (NEC) divided its preparation work of the representative and local elections into three plans, preparations for the voter registration, the conduct of the voter registration and holding of local council and representative elections.
In their statement the commission made it clear that the key to holding these elections is not in their hands and that it is not possible to hold elections without them.
They stipulated in their statement that they had no financial or legal support for the elections. “This timetable is for a period of 9 months, and its implementation and operation are key to the completion of the law and finances,”.
