Hargeisa (SD) – Members of the Somaliland House of Elders rejected an election debate held in Hargeisa by SONSAF, a non-governmental organization.
Lawmakers Abdiaziz Gahnug, Mohamud Hared and Abdirahman Shaadh accused SONSAF of meddling in politics.
The SONSAF meeting discussed in how to hold the Guurti elections on time, for the first since its inception, upsetting the setting Senators.
Somaliland’s House of Elders, whose term ends in 2023, has recently been debating how to fill vacancies and how to conduct their election.
The current Somaliland House of Elders includes lots of members who do not meet some of the criteria for being elected to the House of Elders.
One of the requirement in question is that the person must be at least 45 years old to join the Guurti, while many of the council’s heirs are now under the age of forty.
