Somalis concern about foam seen at Lido beach

MOGADISHU (SD) – The Director General of Somalia’s Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Mohamud Sheikh Abdullahi, spoke about a bubble-like foam seen on Mogadishu’s Lido beach that has caused concerns.

The director said the foam is caused by climate change and engine oil from boats poured into the sea.

“If you pour sea water into a cup and shake it, you will see foam and bubbles, that is because seawater is a combination of elements and substances, ”he added.

Some residents of Mogadishu were seen swimming in the foamy shoreline, while others took it social media worried about the bubbles.

It has been repeatedly reported that nuclear and other industrial waste have been dumped in Somalia’s seas.
