South West forces carrying out security operations in Baidoa

BAIDOA (SD) – The South West regional security forces are conducting security sweeps in Baidoa, the temporary seat of the administration, while the operations are investigating Al Shabaab incursion into the city.

The troops are can be seen patrolling the entrance to the city, and all public transportations.

The officials leading the operation said that they received information that members of Al-Shabaab have entered the city and want to carry out attacks in the capital region.

These operations come after yesterday’s a strong explosion near the Baidoa airport, killing the Minister of Justice of the South West administration, Sheikh Hassan Ibrahim Lugbur and his son, injuring 10 others.

The Al-Shabaab group has carried out 3 explosions in the past week, killing more than 20 people in the cities of Marko, Afgoye and Baidoa in the South West.

Also, there is a two-week-long war in the Bakool region on the border of the Somali region of Ethiopia, between Al Shabaab and Ethiopian forces.
