Las Anod August 23, 2023 (SD) – An intense exchange of gunfire was reported earlier in the Eastern part of Las Anod, the capital of Sool Region. The clashes involved militias loyal to Muse Bihi Abdi and SSC-Khatumo forces within the city.

In the Western part of Las Anood, clashes erupted once again between Somaliland forces and SSC (Sool, Sanaag, and Cayn) militias. Subsequently, a significant battle began that saw continuous fighting around the area known as Maraaga.

Residents living in Las Anod reported hearing heavy gunfire exchanged between the two sides, leading to substantial material damage and casualties.

Yesterday, a prolonged battle took place in the heart of Las Anod, and the conflict persisted until today. The fighting resulted in considerable damage and casualties on both sides.

Authorities from Somaliland and those of SSC-Khatumo provided differing accounts of the recent clashes, and as a result, tension remains high with the possibility of further confrontations.
