Las Anod August 06, 2023 (SD) – The Central Committee of the Administration of Sool, Sanaag, and Ayn regions also known as Khatumo in Somalia, announced today the official results of the election for the chairman of its leadership.

The event took place in the city of Las Anod, the capital of Sool Region. The election saw the participation of two candidates, Abdulkadir Ahmed Aw-Cali and Mohamed Ismail Bulaleh.

The Central Committee of the SSC administration consists of 45 members. The outcome was announced by the Chairman of the Central Committee of the SSC administration, Jama Yasin, who stated that Abdulkadir Ahmed Aw-Cali received 30 votes, while the competing candidate, Mohamed Ismail Bulaleh, received 15 votes.

The elected Chairman of the SSC administration is expected to form a new governing body for the administration’s operations.

The Central Committee of the SSC administration, which operates like a parliament, is composed of representatives from the communities residing in Sool and Ayn regions, as well as selected areas of Sanaag. The committee recently elected Jama Yasin as its chairman.

The regions of Sool and Ayn are seeking an alternative administration separate from the governance structures of Puntland and Somaliland.

The election of Chairman Abdulkadir Ahmed Aw-Cali took place amid heightened security measures and a tense political environment.

The Chairman is expected to have a crucial role, particularly in removing Somaliland’s army from Sool region, including the outskirts of its administrative center, Las Anod.

Furthermore, the Somali people are closely observing how the federal government in Mogadishu responds to the formation of this new administration and whether it will become a part of the federal structure of Somalia.
