MOGADISHU (SD)-The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, participated virtually in the 23rd extraordinary summit of the East African Community (EAC) and commended the leaders of the member countries for their support and advocacy for Somalia’s bid to join the United Nations Security Council.

In his opening remarks, President Mohamud emphasized the importance of cooperation among EAC member states, particularly in areas of peace, security, trade, and economic development. He highlighted that Somalia will soon send its representatives to the East African Legislative Assembly and the East African Court of Justice.

President Hassan Sheikh urged other EAC leaders to continue advancing clear plans to address the security and economic challenges facing the region. He also stressed the importance of strengthening the relationships between the member states of the EAC.
