Nairobi July 13, 2023 (SD) – One of the cultural elders from Sool region has criticized the Somali government for not addressing the issue of Somaliland’s shelling of Las Anod, which has been ongoing for several months.

Garaad Jama Garaad Ismail made these remarks during a gathering held in Nairobi yesterday, where he specifically called out President Hassan Sheikh and Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre for being complicit in the conflict.

“The current government is not paying attention to our concerns. We know for sure that they are aiding Somaliland in their brutal shelling of Las Anod,” said the Garaad.

Furthermore, the main Sool Garaad mentioned that Villa Somalia was giving Muse Bihi cover from International condemnation for atrocities committed in Las Anod.

The federal government has not yet responded to the criticism. Previously, they have made several appeals for dialogue and reconciliation, and President Hassan Sheikh has met with a group of cultural elders from Sool region in Mogadishu.
