Traditional leaders in Puntland oppose MPs from SSC-Khatumo in the House

GAROWE (SD) -The Puntland traditional leaders have decided to exclude MPs representing the SSC-Khatumo from the new Puntland parliament. The decision was announced yesterday, and it includes the establishment of a regional administration for the SSC-Khatumo regions.

A press release issued by the elders stated that only 49 members would be selected for the new Puntland parliament, tasked with electing the president of Puntland and his deputy.

This decision has sparked significant opposition, particularly from President Said Abdullahi Deni, who in a recent statement, declared his intention to seek re-election and called for the inclusion of SSC-Khatumo representatives in the parliamentary selection process.

On the other hand, Vice President Ahmed Karaash has expressed his support for the exclusion of Khaatumo from Puntland, indicating that he favors a separate administration for SSC-Khatumo.

The exclusion of certain clans or regions from the political process can exacerbate existing conflicts and complicate efforts to establish a stable and inclusive governance structure in Puntland.
